This group - so named because they wear barkcloth cloaks and woven reed masks, and wield whips - consists of Salamandastron hares and Brog's holt. They attack Trunn's horde by purposely cutting off their food supply and slaying any vermin scavengers, and their plan works as it is mentioned that the soldiers are extremely thin. They are ambushed by the vermin who kill most of them, but they are saved by the timely arrival of Brocktree's army. In addition, a group of sea otters assault Trunn's fleet by stealing fish and tying up the anchors.
