Ballaw is a resident of an unknown place and, along with Rowanoak, co-founder of the Rambling Rosehip Players. He is the nephew of Flobbears, ancestor of Florian, and meets Brome and Felldoh not long after their escape from Marshank. The group decides to rescue the remaining slaves by putting on a performance for the vermin army, which will really be a distraction so Felldoh can free the captives. To do this, Ballaw disguises himself as a beast called "Tibbar" ("rabbit" spelled backwards) and infiltrates Clogg's camp, successfully convincing the corsair to allow his friends inside the fortress. He plays a major role in the diversion by showing off many magic tricks, and he later helps to save Celandine by throwing javelins at the vermin with Felldoh and Rowanoak. He participates in the Battle of Marshank and later relocates to Noonvale.
