Balefur is a large loner who originates from the Northlands and follows Shang's crew. He is a tough beast who refuses to take orders from others, expertly wields a double-bladed axe, has a northern accent, and openly challenges Swartt's authority. This causes Swartt to become fearful of the big fox wanting to take command of his army so he asks Nightshade for assistance. The vixen successfully tricks Balefur into thinking she holds no alliance to Swartt and tells him of supposed treasure in the Quarry, so Balefur heads there with a few other foxes. Instead of finding treasure he discovers adders who kill him and his companions.
