Badredd
Gender: male
Species: fox
Appears In: Loamhedge
Badredd is the youngest member of Burrad's band who, like them, originates from the Northlands. He is initially called Little Redd and, due to being small, often the butt of jokes. Following a scuffle with Bragoon and Saro that sees Burrad accidentally killed by Skrodd and then Skrodd becoming the new Chieftain, he sides with the tall fox who gives him the new name Badredd. During one night he falls asleep while on guard duty which allows a jealous Dargle to sneak up on Skrodd and kill him, though Skrodd manages to nearly decapitate the rat before dying. The next morning Badredd is the first to awaken and discovers the grisly scene, so he chops off Dargle's head and claims leadership as well as Burrad's cutlass (Skrodd had previously taken it upon becoming Chieftain). He lies to the others about wanting to avenge Skrodd's murder and officially changes his name to Badredd, however the gang does not respect him and Slipback insulting his lack of height. The angry fox cuts off Slipback's tail as punishment, resulting in the vermin slightly respecting but also despising him. Flinky attempts to assassinate him and almost succeeds until Plumnose unknowingly warning the fox, and after this Badredd keeps a close eye on the crafty Flinky. After the silver-tongued stoat mentions a magic sword held within Redwall, Badredd decides to conquer the place and leads his less-than-enthusiastic gang there. Despite their small size they succeed in scaring the inhabitants and eventually sneak through a wallgate, imprisoning the woodlanders inside their own home. He later has Crinktail and Flinky head out to find more reinforcements but the two stoats ends up getting captured by Bol's crew, with the corsair demanding they tell him about Badredd's current position. The rats head to Redwall where Badredd is humiliated and enslaved along with his band, and thanks to Flinky they manage to escape. No longer claiming to be the leader, Badredd willingly lets Flinky become the new Chieftain and they head south. He is one of the few major baddies to not perish.
