Asio - the genus of eared owls - is a resident of the Western Shores who speaks in archaic with a northern accent. He is the nephew of Wilfrum and Cordoolia, can be a bit headstrong, is good friends with Bungwen and Luglug, plays the owlharp, and appears to suffer from short-term memory loss which causes him to believe that Maudie possesses telepathic abilities. While not highly intelligent he is extremely brave and attacks an adder that is threatening a GUOSIM babe, firmly believing the snake is harmless. He is bitten several times, dying as a result, and the shrewbabe is renamed Asio in his memory.
