Ascrod is a resident of Marlfox Island where he lives with his family. He is the son of Silth and brother of Gelltor, Lantur, Mokkan, Predak, Vannan, and Ziral. With the exception of Lantur he joins his siblings on the trip to Mossflower to steal beautiful things for their greedy mother. Like them he has pale eyes, grey fur spotted with black and dark blue, wears a brown-and-green cloak for camouflage, and wields an axe. He often works with Vannan and is slightly afraid of heights. While wandering in Mossflower he and Vannan come across Janglur's family and attempt to attack them, however they are both defeated and sent running. Some time later, during battle at Redwall to rescue a captured Dwopple, he sneaks into the Abbey with three other vermin (Beelu, Dakkle, and Vannan respectively) where they ambush the trio of guards in Great Hall. Upon being discovered he kills Nutwing and uses him as a shield, knocking out the three youngsters who are keeping watch (Dann, Dippler, and Song respectively), and helps to steal Martin's tapestry before fleeing the Abbey. After this successful mission he wishes to leave Mossflower but his idea is countermanded by his siblings. Following many attempts to gain access into Redwall he finally opens the main gates but is spotted by Rimrose, who guides Cregga in firing a longbow arrow from a window. The arrow is released with such force that it zips out far across the flatlands even though it passes right through Ascrod first. He is the fourth Marlfox to perish.
