Arven is a rascally Dibbun of Redwall during the time of Durral and good friends with Tansy, whom he often calls "Tansy Pansy". While they are searching for some herbs in Mossflower he falls into a hole that contains Graylunk's skeletal remains, which ignites the search for the Tears of all Oceans. He is the leader of a trio that includes Diggum and Gurrbowl, and while the three pals get into mischief on several occasions he plays a role in finding the six pearls. In adulthood he becomes Abbey Warrior, participates in the Battle of the Ridge of a Thousand, and towards the end of his life he serves as Abbot for three seasons before eventually passing away following a hard winter and is later succeeded by Song. Arven is the only known creature to be both Abbot and Abbey Warrior, and along with Thibb is the only known male of his species to be Abbot.
