Arflow is a young member of an unknown holt who lives with his parents and younger sister Matunda. While swimming in the sea by himself for the first time he witnesses the brutal massacre by Gulo's horde on some Long Patrol hares, which later allows him to correctly claim that Doogy and Tam are not the ones responsible.
