Alkanet - the name for plants in the borage family - is the Infirmary Keeper and one of Redwall's counsellors. She is extremely stern, rarely smiles, famous for her wicked glare and a horrible-tasting medicine she calls "Physicks", and almost always worried because there is no Abbey leader or Warrior. She is initially quite doubtful of Mhera but changes her mind after witnessing the young ottermaid's wisdom, and later becomes assistant Cellarkeeper after retiring from her position in the Infirmary. She is succeeded by Egburt and Floburt.
