Alem is the leader of Holt Mossguard who lives with his tribe in Mossflower, where the River Moss and woodlands meet. He is the father of Runa, father-in-law of Corriam, ancestor of Banjon and Tiria, and possible ancestor of Whulky. He is very strongly against his daughter's relationship with Corriam, eventually causing a rift between them and her to run away to Redwall with Corriam.
