Perant is the Infirmary Keeper and famous for his extensive knowledge of various herbs, treatments, potions, and salves. He can be a bit stubborn but possesses a caring heart, and tends to a wounded Pandion after the bird is brought to Redwall by Tiria's band by removing the iron barb painfully lodged in his beak. He later dresses Brantalis's neck wound and attempts to keep the arguing birds apart, initially refusing Tiria's suggestion of allowing them out of the Infirmary as she needs information about Green Isle. Lycian appears with a hurt Grumby and orders that the two birds be let out, so Perant gives the okay. He later helps to solve Geminya's riddles.
